Matrix Design Africa Connects with South Africa’s Platinum Belt at Mining Expo International in Rustenburg

Matrix Design Africa connected with mining operators at Mining Expo International in Rustenburg, sharing proven safety and productivity technologies. Conversations throughout the event highlighted the importance of visibility, compliance, and practical solutions for safer, more efficient mining operations.

Our team spent the day face-to-face with operators from some of the region’s largest platinum and chrome operations, sharing how proven safety and productivity technology can help keep people safe underground.

On 15 October, Matrix Design Africa, part of Matrix Design Group, joined Mining Expo International in Rustenburg, North West Province. The one-day show put our team at the centre of South Africa’s platinum belt, a few kilometres from the shafts, smelters and refineries where our technology matters most.

A Show That Comes to the Mines

Mining Expo International, run by M.I.S. International, is a travelling exhibition. Instead of asking the industry to come to a convention centre, it sets up in mining communities and invites the operations nearby.

The Rustenburg guest list read like a who’s who of the platinum belt: Sibanye-Stillwater’s Rustenburg and Kroondal sections, Impala Platinum and Impala Processing, Tharisa Minerals, Eland Platinum, Bakubang and Pilanesberg Platinum, the Waterval and Rustenburg smelters, precious and base metal refineries, local chrome producers, and the contractors who support them.

That format suited us. The people walking our stand were the engineers, safety officers and shift leaders who make day-to-day decisions about how their crews stay safe.

What We Brought to Rustenburg

Matrix Design Africa brought the full Matrix suite to Rustenburg, giving visitors one place to see how our technologies work together across safety, compliance and operations:

  • ppe2go® brings PPE issuing and stock control onto one centralised digital platform. PPE entitlements are aligned with each employee’s code of practice, secure biometric ID verification confirms who collected what, and real-time reporting cuts unnecessary issuing or misuse of PPE – keeping audit records clean
  • DeltaERP unifies finance, inventory, procurement, production and reporting in one integrated platform. It is built for complex industries like mining, with modules such as metallurgical accounting, oreflow and enterprise asset management.
  • OmniPro® Vision AI uses award-winning visual AI to detect people and vehicles in an operator’s blind spots and alert them in the cab. It needs no tags, supports up to five custom alert zones per camera, and connects to the cloud for decision intelligence reporting.
  • Saminco high-power AC and DC motor control and traction drive systems, built to run reliably on underground mining equipment in the harshest conditions.

Together, these solutions help operations move beyond compliance, protecting people on the ground while giving managers the data to run a safer, more efficient site.

Industry Perspectives

“Shows like this put us in the same room as the people running these operations every day. We weren’t just handing out brochures. We were hearing about real challenges on real sites and talking through how we can help solve them.”

— Otsile Loate, Business Developement : Sales, Matrix Design Africa

“The technical questions were the best part of the day. Visitors wanted to know how our systems hold up in harsh environments, how they integrate with existing equipment, and what support looks like after installation. Being able to answer that face to face builds a lot of confidence.”

— David Nel, Systems Engineer, Matrix Design Africa

Looking Ahead

Rustenburg reinforced something we believe: the best way to support a mine is to show up where it operates. Thank you to M.I.S. International for hosting, and to every visitor who stopped by to talk.

Rustenburg is just one stop. Our team will be back on the road with Mining Expo International for the rest of the 2026 tour:

  • Phalaborwa, 5 November. Invited guests include Palabora Mining Company, Foskor and Bosveld Fertilizers.
  • Richards Bay, 19 November. Invited guests include Richards Bay Minerals, Richards Bay Coal Terminal, Hillside Aluminium and Transnet.

If your operation is nearby, come find us.
